October Devotional

John 1:12 (NIV)
“Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.”
Having been convinced that Jesus was who He claimed to be, the apostle John wanted others to know that only through Christ could one become a child of God. However, we see in this short passage that this adoption into the family of God involves not only believing in Jesus Christ and all that He achieved, but also receiving Him and all that He accomplished. As if being born again, our newfound identity in Christ changes everything!
October Topic of Discussion: Identity – More Than DNA, A Catalyst for Change
Understanding and embracing your identity can be incredibly powerful. Our families, genetics, and backgrounds shape who we are. In fact, we often notice similar traits, attitudes, and behaviors in ourselves and our family members. However, our values, beliefs, education, and life experiences also play a significant role in shaping our identities. When we are working on creating change in our lives, our understanding of our identity can guide and facilitate that process. Unfortunately, not fully grasping or leveraging all aspects of our identity can limit our access to the resources needed to make change, resulting in abandoned goals and settling for less. Fortunately, through Christ, we are empowered to achieve what is humanly impossible (see Matthew 19:26). Moreover, with Christ, we can accomplish far more than we could ever imagine (see Ephesians 3:20-21).
What aspects of your identity have contributed to positive changes in your life? How can embracing your identity in Christ help you unlock your full potential and transform your life? What actions can you take today to live more fully in your identity in Christ?
